I taught English and communication in secondary schools and colleges throughout Scotland for forty years. Most working days involved delivering live lessons in the classroom but also supporting learners online.

During the teaching day (when possible), evenings and often weekends I marked essays, helping students to eradicate spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors. I advised them about ways in which to improve expression in their writing. I also offered advice regarding overall structure and, where necessary, the protocols of academic referencing.

In colleges I helped hundreds of overseas students to improve their written and spoken English, allowing them to achieve success at their chosen level of study and, in many cases, enjoy progression to degree level study.
